If you've been following the news, Michael Vick has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced, and been suspended by the NFL. When the incident first broke out in the news, it seemed too bizarre to be true.
A while back before the ugly disclosure Vick's alma mater, Virginia Tech, was going through its struggles with the campus shooting. I remember waiting on Vick's sentiments on the issue. He said he was shocked and saddened, but that the community would rebound. Encouraging, but he was torturing dogs during this time.
This brings an interesting lesson about Vick as a brand. His brand is his reputation of accomplishments. And his reputation took years and effort to build. But reputations (and brand value) can be destroyed within seconds, and with little effort.
